In London

After Jamie had left Japan, I was very vexed that I didn't have much time to tell him that I've become a big fan of  him, how much I love his performance and I was falling in love with him. I wrote him letters and emails to tell those things but  I just had been thinking that I must meet him again and tell him about it. I was dying to see him as soon as possible and finally decided to go to England. On 30th June 1999, I landed at the Heathrow Airport with my friend.

We were going to see the SAS Band gig at the Mean Fiddler on 3rd July. I had got the information of that Jamie was playing the gig, and I had told him before we left Japan that we would be there. However I slightly worried if he was actually playing it, as he had got the operation on his back twice, and no sooner than he had recovered, he went  to the tour with Mike & The Mechanics. I had the idea of that  his back might be bad again and he might not be able to  play the gig.

Anyway, on that day, we went to the Mean Fiddler early to catch him when he has arrived the venue. There were already some people waiting, so I asked them if he had arrived there, and they said he hadn't yet. So I was quite relieved and though I must be able to meet him if only I was waiting for him there. While we were waiting for Jamie, other band members or singers had showed up and talked with fans. Zoe, one of the FABBA, had remembered me and was surprised to see me. We were all glad to meet again and hugged each other.

We waited and waited, but he didn't show up and the time of the door open had come. I was quite uneasy, as my idea might be right. In any case, we went into the venue without seeing Jamie and got the second row on Jamie's side. Fortunately, the woman ahead of me was shorter than I, so that  I could see the stage very well. I found that there's only one mike standing the right side of the stage. I had seen the SAS live video and knew there should be two mikes - one was  for Jamie and the other was for another guitarist (sorry I forgot his name). Just as I was afraid it would, Jamie wasn't there when the show had started.

I was too disappointed. The show itself was fun, but I couldn't enjoy with all my heart. You know, I came to England to see him all the way from Japan. I might have said "to see Jamie Moses" when  the immigration people asked "what's the purpose of your visit?" Even though Mark Shaw sung the lilting version of "Tie Your Mother Down" with hopping and whirling around the stage, I was blue.

The show was going on without Jamie and I had already gave up to see him. But unexpectedly, Spike said something about Jamie. I don't remember exactly what he said, but he said something like that Jamie had gone to the party with Mike and The Mechanics but just showed up. Then, as soon as Spike said so, Jamie came to the stage!!

It was Jamie Moses. It was him I craved for seeing again! I finally made it! I was so happy and called out him. First he was checking the guitar then looked at the audience. He recognized me immediately and gave me a big beautiful smile with pointing at me and saying "oh!" I was soo happy. I was over the moon, as he remembered me!! My friend kindly offered to take pictures of him for me, so I was able to devote all my attention to watch him. First he played "Hammer To Fall" and he was just so great, as gorgeous as I saw him first. After finished the track, he looked at me and pointed out me again, then he spread his arms and made the gesture of flying - an airplane! He was talking to me with the gesture from the stage!! I understood what he said with the body language and answered him with nodding - "yes, yes!!" He gave me a big beautiful smile again. Wow, it was quite something to me. We were able to talk and understand each other with the body language! (I know you guys don't think it's special, but please understand, at least I felt as if it was very special at that time.)

However, the show had already got into its final phase, so that Jamie played only four songs and the show reached the finale soon. I had a gift for Jamie and thought I should give him it right now. So I called out him a couple of times but he didn't notice it, as he was chatting with the band members or singers. But Mark Shaw was aware of me calling Jamie and kindly told him it. Thereby, Jamie came toward me and took my gift, then he said thank you and threw a kiss to me. The band greeted to the audience and got off the stage by twos and threes. Jamie was greeting to the audience as well, and just before got off the stage, he looked at me and threw a kiss again with a big beautiful smile, then wave at me with murmuring good-bye.

I finally saw him again but I still wished to meet and speak to him. So we waited for him outside of the venue. First, there were some other groups chatting or eating, but as time went by, they had gone and eventually there were only two of us. It was around the midnight and we were the Japanese tourists. We thought it's too dangerous to stay there any more and decided to leave there without meeting Jamie. I was disappointed again. Did I come to England to see him playing only four songs?!

Well, it was not the only thing that we have done in England. We visited many places related to QUEEN (I could say it might be the main purpose of my visit in a sense, as I was wishing to do it for a long time) and general sightseeing around London and countryside. All in all, I think our trip was great. About seeing Jamie again, I couldn't say everything was going well as I hoped and it was kind of hard to convince myself. But I'm not disappointed any more. I must have another chance to meet him some time. I won't give up until I make it better!
